Nourishing Soaked Oats with Berries and Raw Milk

I love a good hearty breakfast. In the traditions of Ayurveda it is best to eat a fulfilling breakfast in the morning to give you energy throughout the day. In Ayurveda teachings it is good to boost the digestive fires or Agni, in the morning. These digestive fires can keep the furnace of your metabolism and energy fueled. Warm foods with certain spices can stoke the agni fires. Spices like black pepper, cinnamon, cardamom, nutmeg, clove and cayenne can help balance the body and help stimulate agni. These spices in a bowl of raw milk soaked oats are my favorite for a sustainable breakfast.

I remember when I first tried the European bircher Muesli at a posh hotel in my early twenties. I was swooning with the creaminess and deliciousness of it all. This soaked oats recipe is definitely inspired by that with the Ayurvedic touches enhancing the health properties.

I like to add some protein rich walnuts, vanilla powder, for extra deliciousness and seasonal fruits. In Ayurveda the fruits tend to be stewed and warmed up for easier digestion, however since the berries are so delicious this time of year I left these raw. I soak the walnuts and oats together in raw milk but you can also use almond milk or yogurt for a more bircher muesli type experience.

1 cup organic gluten free oats
1 cup raw milk or almond milk
1 tbs vanilla powder
3 tbs soaked walnuts
1 tbs pumpkin seeds
1 tsp organic cinnamon
1 tsp nutmeg
1 tsp cardamom
sliced strawberries
cacao nibs
